Record selected channels to central storage while also supporting recording on individual computers
Traditional recording and archiving relied heavily on physical recording equipment. Devices such as Betacam and other tape-based systems were used to record individual video sources, with the resulting content stored on tape. Adding more channels meant adding more recording equipment, tapes, storage space, and staff to manage them.
Tape-based workflows also had operational limitations. Changing and managing tapes, maintaining physical archives, finding older programs, and storing large tape collections made archiving complicated. Mechanical recording equipment required regular maintenance, and accessing large amounts of archived content at the same time was not straightforward.
LanTV’s centralized recording feature moves this workflow to a network-based, digital storage environment. After receiving the channels, LanTV can record selected content to a central storage system. Instead of using separate recording equipment for every channel, recording can be managed from a central infrastructure.
This approach supports simultaneous recording of many channels and centralized management of recorded content. Recording can also take place on individual computers, allowing the recording architecture to be tailored to the organization’s needs. LanTV Recorder supports scheduled recording at specified times and on selected days, 24/7 recording, splitting recordings into manageable segments (such as one-hour files), and automatic periodic deletion.
Digital storage also makes recorded content easier to access and manage. Files can be shared with users and relevant systems over the network, without physically moving tapes. Storage capacity can be expanded by adding more space to the storage system.
